Five IITs will get national institutional status
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Act Amendment Bill 2020 was passed in the Rajya Sabha and approved by Parliament. The bill will be amended by IIT Act 2014 and IIT Government Private Partnership Act 2017. The 2017 IIT Public-Private Partnership Act will give some IIT institutions the status of national institutions. The bill provides for the status of five national institutes in Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala and Raichur.
Participating in the discussion on the bill, Education Minister Ramesh Pokharial Nishank said, “Technical knowledge is playing an important role in the development of the country. "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, special attention is being paid to the field of technical knowledge," he said.
