PM Modi congratulates Yoshihide Suga, the new Prime Minister of Japan
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Yoshihide Suga on his appointment as the new Prime Minister of Japan and hoped to jointly take their “unique strategic and global partnership” to new heights. Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Heartiest congratulations to Yoshihid Suga on his appointment as Prime Minister of Japan.
Suga, 71, was elected prime minister on Wednesday following a vote of confidence in the lower house of parliament. He is the longest serving prime minister of Japan, the successor to the late leader Shinzo Abe, who resigned earlier this month due to health problems.
A close ally of Mr. Abe, the new prime minister is expected to bring his former champion policy closer to the breaking point. Suga will soon announce his cabinet line.
