 Polavaram case in NGT: NGT accepts 8 recommendations of the committee.


New Delhi: The NGT has accepted the recommendations of a four-member expert committee in the Polavaram case of the Indira Sagar Multipurpose Water Project on the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh.  The committee submitted its report on September 8.  There were 9 recommendations in the report.  Of these, 8 are accepted by the NGT.  The Supreme Court has not accepted the recommendation to transfer the case.


 The accepted recommendations were

 1 - The Polavaram authority will act as per the final state agreement.


 2 - The Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal will comply with the 1980 judgment.


 3 - The area where the water is submerged will be explored.


 4 - There will be a back water study of the project.

 5 - Polavaram Project Officer will be fully responsible for any impact caused by the project.


 6 - Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will discuss the project.

 7 - 6316 people of Odisha will be displaced.

 8 - Within two months, the Central Government, Project Authority and CWC will meet with Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.


 The NGT has directed the Union Ministry of Water Power to implement these recommendations.  The NGT issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Telangana's Sudhakar Reddy.
