Prisoner suicide in jail: Suicide note found in stomach
An inmate has committed suicide by hanging himself at Nashik Central Jail in Maharashtra. He was Asghar Ali Mansuri, who was serving a life sentence. During the post-mortem, the doctor confiscated a suicide note from his abdomen. The suicide note is alleged to have been tortured by prison authorities. The post-mortem report was covered in plastic.
An official from the Nashik police station said Mansuri had been convicted of murder. However, on October 8, he was rescued from a prison cell. "Mansuri could not write or read," he said. So someone may have helped him write the suicide note. Authorities have denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating "Similar, baseless allegations concerning suicide have been made more than once. After Mansuri's death, other inmates wrote a letter to higher authorities demanding action against the staff named in the suicide note.
