Dharmendra opposes university amendment bill

Dharmendra opposes university amendment bill.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has opposed the University (Amendment) Bill-2020 passed in the Assembly.  The bill violates the country's constitutional system and UGC regulations.  Dharmendra on Saturday wrote a letter to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokharial Nis urging him to take steps to repeal the bill in the interest of students, teachers and researchers in the state.

Dharmendra said in the letter that the new rules of the Odisha government would end the university’s policy-making Senate system and introduce a government-regulated syndicate system in its place.  In his letter, Pradhan said the selection committee was prioritizing people from non-academic backgrounds, with the state government cleverly controlling the selection and appointment process of the university chancellor.
