New Delhi: If you withdraw more than Rs 5,000 from an ATM in the coming days, you will have to pay extra.  It will not be included in your five free transactions.  You will have to pay a separate fee for this.

A customer has to pay up to Rs 24 if he withdraws more than Rs 5,000 at a time.  Then if more deals are made that month, the sixth transaction costs Rs 20.

The RBI has set up a committee to review ATM fees.  Based on this, banks can change ATM fees after eight years.  According to SD Mahurkar, SLBC coordinator in Madhya Pradesh, the committee has focused on increasing ATM transactions in cities with a population of less than one lakh.

Most people are picking up a small amount here.  So the committee has kept small transactions free.  Customers in small towns will be able to get discounts at other banks' ATMs six times a month.  Now in small towns only five times can withdraw free money.

In metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, customers are allowed to withdraw money from ATMs three times a month.  This is the fourth time there has been an additional charge.
