Mumbai: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has announced that the Ranji Trophy, the main domestic cricket tournament of the current season, will start from January 2021.  The decision was taken at a two-day meeting of the BCCI Apex Council on Saturday and Sunday.  This time the Ranji Trophy is in the old format because of the corona infection in the country;  That means it will be played on a zone basis.  This time, 38 teams will play in the Ranji Trophy.  This time around, the Northeast Zone will also play the Ranji Trophy with five zones.  The four-match zone match will be played in one city.  Such a city will have multiple stadiums, good hotels and good hospitals for emergencies.  The match in the northeastern zone could be played in Pondicherry.  Northern matches can be played in Delhi, central matches in Lucknow, Indore or Nagpur.  Eastern matches will be played in Kolkata or Bhubaneswar.  Match in the south could be played in Chennai or Bangalore and match in the west could be played in Pune, Mumbai or Baroda.  The senior women's inter-state cricket tournament could also be played with the Ranji Trophy.  No spectators will be allowed to enter the stadium.  Other age group tournaments will be decided later;  Which can be played in March-April.
