A plan worth Rs 25,000 crore is being prepared; chemical imports from China will be reduced
New Delhi, Sep 19: The central government is now considering reducing chemical imports from China. A plan worth Rs 25,000 crore is being prepared for this. In this regard, the government aims to bring in productive incentives. Plans will be made to reduce the import of chemicals used in pharmaceuticals, pesticides and other industries, as well as to encourage local manufacturing, a senior official involved in the process said. The meeting was recently held on behalf of the Department of Chemicals. The list is about to include about 45 critical chemicals. The incentive plan is to provide 10% of the production value. It is estimated that about Rs 25,000 crore will be spent on this in the next five years.
The central government is in favor of tough action against China after the death of 20 Indian youths at the border. India imports Rs 1.5 lakh crore worth of chemicals every year. About 80 to 85 percent of it comes from China, officials said. Pharma API preparations have begun in the country. India aims to be self-sufficient in this regard. A total of 327 items are also made up of about 3 parts of China. An alternative is being sought to import this material from China. The Department of Chemicals has formed a committee to implement various schemes. The committee finalized its proposal. First it will be paid to the Department of Expenses. The official said the cabinet would later be sent for approval.
