Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said the government's move would increase the use of steel in the rural economy. Addressing a webinar titled Self-reliant India, Mr. Pradhan said the government aims to produce ethanol from rice. He said many distilleries and refineries would be set up to boost the steel industry.
The minister pointed out that Rs 1 lakh crore of agricultural infrastructure funds are being distributed and many sectors have been identified as primary sectors. He added that 15 million metric tons of compressed bio-gas would be produced in the next five to six years. "All of this will increase the use of steel and increase the per capita steel consumption to 74 kilograms," he said.
